Flat braid cable, also known as tinned braided copper, is a tight weave of drawn tinned copper wire. Originally constructed as a tube, it is then rolled flat which creates a specific width. What is a braided cable? Well, a braid is a tubular sheath created from braided strands of wire. The strands in the cable range from tens to even hundreds of different strands.
In what situations would you use a flat braid cable? It has quite a wide range of uses. 3/8" Flat braid cables are popular for use as RF grounding straps. It is commonly used to shield wire bundles. A 3/8" flat braided cable is an ideal choice when used as a low impedance ground path. It can even be used as a strong connection between larger components. As an added benefit, 3/8" flat braid cable is extremely flexible. The tinned copper conductors are flexible and easy to use. This makes it an ideal choice for use in marine conditions. Choosing the correct size of tinned copper braid is not always an easy choice. Contact a Pacer Expert today with any questions that you may have.
