Multi-pair shielded cables are utilized for a wide range of industrial and commercial uses. These uses include remote control circuits and even industrial equipment control circuits. They are also often used in Point-of-Sale (POS) equipment and in control circuits where the signal is required to be totally isolated. These wires are encased in an aluminum foil shield for added degrees of protection. This type of shielding is sometimes called "Screening". The pairs of wires are then covered with a durable yet flexible PVC jacket.
Why are the pairs shielded? Well, each pair of wires is individually shielded to reduce the amount of electromagnetic interference. The aluminum shielding serves to block the interference from entering or exiting the cable. The shielding also works to prevent crosstalk between neighboring pairs of wires. Selecting the correct type of multi-pair cable can be somewhat confusing. Contact a Pacer expert today with any questions that you have.
