What are Delphi Connectors?
Delphi connectors, now known as Aptiv connectors, are a series of environmentally sealed connectors designed to withstand moisture, extreme temperatures, and harsh conditions. These features make them highly sought after, especially in the automotive industry. However, their applications extend beyond just vehicles—Delphi connectors are essential in marine environments and other demanding settings where secure, weather-resistant connections are critical.
These connectors create dis-connectable, environmentally sealed connections by integrating a specialized sealing process. A seal is placed over a stripped wire before the terminal is added. When the terminal is crimped, the seal shifts into position. The final step involves inserting the wire into the Delphi connector, ensuring that both the terminal and seal lock securely in place. This method results in a durable, weatherproof connection, ideal for long-term reliability.
Where are Delphi connectors implemented?
Delphi connectors offer high level protection
Delphi connectors are implemented in applications that require superior protection for critical circuits. They are used not only in new wire installations but also as ideal replacements for worn or damaged connectors. If you're dealing with faded or faulty connections, upgrading to Delphi connectors ensures durability and efficiency. With the right tools and terminals, installation is quick and straightforward.
What types of connectors are available?
We offer towers and shrouds that allow you to create environmentally sealed connections with 1, 2, 3, 4, or 6 positions. By providing various position options, we eliminate the need for cavity plugs to block unused openings. Instead of purchasing individual components—such as towers, shrouds, seals, pin terminals, socket terminals, and plugs—our Delphi Weather Pack kits include everything needed for a field-serviceable connection.

Key advantages of Delphi Connectors?
Solderless Installation - Unlike traditional connectors, Delphi connectors use tin-plated terminals with specialized core wings that allow for crimp-only connections. This eliminates the need for soldering, saving time and effort. Additionally, the triple-ribbed, self-lubricating silicone seals make insertion easy while providing exceptional environmental protection against extreme temperatures, chemicals, and fluids.
Dual Locking - Worried about terminals loosening or backing out? Delphi connectors feature dual-locking tangs to prevent terminal disengagement. Additionally, each connector includes a secondary lock and Connector Position Assurance (CPA) system, ensuring the connection remains secure even under vibration and mechanical stress.
Reduces Stress/Strain - Delphi connectors feature positive locking indexing, which prevents misalignment when plugging connectors together. Moreover, terminal plugging requires no specific orientation—pins and sockets can be inserted without concern for top or bottom placement. The design also reduces wire strain, contributing to long-lasting reliability.
Where would I use them?
These connectors are ideal for use in any environment where the application calls for environmentally sealed connections and field serviceability coupled with a high level of protection. Often times, people use Delphi connectors in their boats, cars, trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and more. It boils down to their ease of installation and the long term protection that they provide.
What industries utilize Delphi connectors?
Delphi connectors can be found in multiple industries such as the automotive industry, the marine industry, and the transportation industry. They are often chosen for their level of durability, variety of connector types, and, most importantly, the environmental protections that they offer. Choosing the right Delphi connector for your project is not always an easy task. Contact a Pacer expert today with any questions you may have.
